Today, on the first ever National Hip Hop Celebration Day.
BIG JEFF APPROVED, HIP HOP SAVES LIVES and KUNTA
OFFICIAL BEATS announce the debut of a new tribute song, HIP HOP
SALUTE.
August 11th is an important date in Hip Hop's history because it marks the
celebration of its 48th birthday. On August 11, 1973, DJ Kool Herc and his
sister Cindy Campbell hosted a back-to-school party on Sedgwick Avenue in
the Bronx, New York, an event that birthed Hip Hop's music and
culture. DJ Kool Herc extended the break beat, which is a drum solo that
originates from Africa.
Now, the United States Senate has passed a resolution recognizing August
11th as National Hip Hop Celebration Day, the first time Hip Hop has
been recognized in any manner by the Senate.
HIP HOP SAVES LIVES believes it is important to honor this achievement, and
Hip Hop's origins, so the tribute song HIP HOP SALUTE includes artists from
across both the United States and Africa, as a salute to the true origin and
inspiration of the culture. The song endeavors to educate people on Hip Hop's
origins and become part of the annual Hip Hop Celebration Day curriculum.
HIP HOP SALUTE is produced by BIG JEFF APPROVED, HIP HOP SAVES
LIVES and KUNTA OFFICIAL BEATS. The music is produced by KUNTA
